    Goodness, so many books! If you are looking for a comprehensive, single-volume survey of Irish history, I can recommend Thomas Bartlett's Ireland: A History (Cambridge, ). He writes in a breezy, readable style and covers the subject thoroughly. The book is a love letter to Ireland that will make you want to travel to see for yourself.
